Dan Brouillette
15th U.S. Secretary of Energy; Authority on Energy, Finance, Business Strategy & Governmental Policy
The Honorable Dan R. Brouillette is an experienced leader with a distinguished career in both the private and public sectors, specializing in energy, finance, business strategy, and government policy.
As President of Sempra Infrastructure (SI), a subsidiary of Sempra, Brouillette played a critical role in the company’s evolution from a regional LNG exporter to a multinational energy powerhouse. Under his leadership, SI achieved significant growth, including a $13 billion final investment decision for its Port Arthur LNG project, which, upon completion, will become one of the largest LNG export facilities in the United States. Brouillette’s oversight of large capital projects, as well as his management of complex financial and geopolitical challenges, were key to establishing Sempra’s position as a leader in global energy exports.
Brouillette served as the 15th United States Secretary of Energy, where he led national energy policy and advanced key innovations in nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and energy storage. He is the only person ever nominated by a President and confirmed by the US Senate to serve as both Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Department of Energy. During this period, the Department developed the two fastest supercomputers in the world. He is personally recognized for helping stabilize global oil markets during the COVID-19 pandemic and for facilitating the first-ever ministerial-level energy meetings between Israel and key Middle Eastern nations. For these achievements, he was awarded Distinguished Public Service Medals by both the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State, the highest individual honor that can be bestowed by either department.
Earlier in his career, Brouillette held senior leadership roles at Ford Motor Company and USAA. He additionally served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and as an Assistant Secretary of Energy in the George W. Bush Administration. Brouillette holds an MBA from Tulane University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Intelligence from The Citadel. He served as a tank commander in the U.S. Army’s 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and as a guest lecturer at the US Army War College. He is currently a visiting scholar and Executive-in-Residence at Tulane and a distinguished advisor to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Energy Institute at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the International Advisory Board of the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC.
