C. D. (Dan) Mote Jr. is president of the University of Maryland and the Glenn L. Martin Institute Professor of Engineering.

    1. (Dan) Mote Jr. is president of the University of Maryland and the Glenn L. Martin Institute Professor of Engineering. Prior to assuming the presidency at Maryland, he served for 31 years on the faculty at the University of California at Berkeley. From 1991 to 1998, he was Berkeley’s vice chancellor, held an endowed chair in mechanical systems, and was president of the UC Berkeley Foundation. He earlier served as chairman of Berkeley's department of mechanical engineering. His research focuses on dynamic systems and biomechanics, and he is internationally recognized for his research on the dynamics of gyroscopic systems.
