Dan Flynn

Author, Columnist, & Senior Editor of "The American Spectator"

Daniel J. Flynn is an American author, columnist and senior editor of The American Spectator, a conservative magazine covering news and politics.

Flynn is the author of The War on Football: Saving America’s Game (Regnery, 2013), Blue Collar Intellectuals: When the Enlightened and the Everyman Elevated America (ISI Books, 2011), A Conservative History of the American Left (Crown Forum, 2008), Intellectual Morons: How Ideology Makes Smart People Fall for Stupid Ideas (Crown Forum, 2004), and Why the Left Hates America (Prima Forum, 2002). His most recent book, Cult City: Jim Jones, Harvey Milk, and 10 days that shook San Francisco was published in 2018.

He wrote a weekly Friday column on pop culture for the American Spectator and currently serves as the magazines senior editor. His articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Boston Globe, the New York Post, City Journal, and National Review, among other publications. A frequent speaker, he has delivered lectures on more than 100 campuses, including Princeton, the University of Texas, Stanford, Swarthmore, and Smith. Elsewhere, he has faced book burners, mobs shouting down his talks, and administrators barring him from campus.

He launched his website, www.flynnfiles.com, in 2004.

Flynn has been interviewed and interrogated by everyone from Rush Limbaugh to Chris Matthews to Nancy Grace to Phil Donahue to Bill O’Reilly. In person, over the phone, on the radio, and via email, he has conversed with and questioned Richard Sherman, Ray Bradbury, Andrew Breitbart, Mark Rudd, and Conor McGregor for his books, articles, and broadcasts.

Delivering the Boston Globe from the age of eight to thirteen, selling various edibles and potables at Fenway Park in his teens, and serving as a Marine LAV-25 gunner during his twenties all rank among his favorite jobs. He enjoys smoking cigars in his attic, getting lost in used bookstores, chopping firewood, buying curios at estate sales, and listening to The Tallest Man on Earth, Greta Van Fleet, Nick Lowe, and old-time radio. He likes sledding with his kids in the winter and swimming with them in the summer but he loves fall the best.
