Dan Gross

Gun Control Activist & Co-Founder of The Center for Gun Rights and Responsibility

Dan Gross founded GreaterSum Strategies in 2018 based on a lifelong passion for marketing and communications, and his belief in their power to make important non-profit organizations and social movements more successful through effective storytelling and by creating unifying, emotionally compelling brands.

In 2020 Gross also co-founded the Center for Gun Rights and Responsibility (CGRR.US) in partnership with Rob Pincus, a leading Second Amendment Advocate, to start a new common ground conversation about guns in the U.S.

Gross started his career in advertising, becoming the youngest-ever Partner at JWT. After his brother was shot in a mass shooting atop the Empire State Building in 1997, Dan resigned to co-found PAX / The Center to Prevent Youth Violence,, becoming the nation’s largest 501c3 gun safety organization, raising more than $20 million in support behind proven national awareness campaigns like ASK (Asking Saves Kids).

In 2012, Gross was named president of The Brady Campaign and Center, leading it back to national prominence and financial strength after inheriting eight straight years of revenue decline in an increasingly crowded landscape. Gross almost tripled revenues in less than six years, raising more than $50 million. Gross also emerged as a leading national spokesperson, with regular appearances in national media, keynote addresses, congressional testimony, a featured presentation at the Aspen Ideas Festival and an acclaimed TED Talk.

Gross has worked closely with leaders at the highest levels of government and has recruited support from a long list of leaders and influencers in philanthropy, media, marketing, business and entertainment. His efforts have received numerous prestigious marketing awards and honors, including from Cannes and the Clio awards. Gross' impact has been validated in a peer reviewed journal article with the Harvard School of Public Health and by a recent study by the U.S. Government Accountability Office concluding the ASK Campaign is the only effort proven to change attitudes and behaviors around guns in the home. Gross is also an alumnus of the Rockefeller Foundation’s Next Generation Leadership Fellowship.
