Psychologist, Co-Founder/Executive Director of the Summit Center, & Author, "Make Your Worrier a Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Child's Fears"
Dr. Daniel Peters is a licensed psychologist, author, and Co-Founder/Executive Director of the Summit Center in California.
Dr. Peters has devoted his career to working with children and families. His practice focuses on the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and families with diverse issues and challenges including overcoming worry and fear, learning differences such as dyslexia, and issues related to giftedness and twice-exceptionality.
Dr. Dan (as his patients call him) specializes in children and families and is passionate about creating healthy communities by helping parents and teachers engage children in the classroom, at home, and in life so that they can realize their full potential.
As the father of three children, he understands the daily challenges of parenting in today’s complicated world, as well as the importance of teaching children of all ages coping skills, problem solving, and resilience. He created "The Worry Monster" character to inspire parents and children of all ages to conquer worry.
Dr. Dan is the author of "Make Your Worrier a Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Child’s Fears" (Great Potential Press, 2013), and the companion book for children, "From Worrier to Warrior: A Guide to Conquering Your Fears." In addition, he is co-author (with Dr. Susan Daniels) of "Raising Creative Kids" (Great Potential Press, 2013). Dr. Peters is a regular contributor to Huffington Post.com and Psychology Today and his work has been published on many sites and as well as in professional publications including Parents.com, L.A. Parent, Gifted Education Communicator, and 2e Newsletter. Dr. Peters’ books are the culmination of more than two decades of working with children and families as a clinical psychologist, 13 years of raising his own children, and 43 years of living with his own experiences as a worrier and a perfectionist and later in life diagnosed dyslexic.
Dr. Peters serves on the California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Advisory Board, the Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted (SENG) Editorial Board, the Advisory Board for the 2e Center for Research and Professional Development at Bridges Academy, and as Co-Chair of the Assessments of Giftedness Special Interest Group of the National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC). He speaks regularly at state and national conferences and writes articles on topics related to parenting, learning differences, and education. He is also co-founder of Camp Summit, a sleep-over summer camp for gifted youth.
