Dana Bunnell-Young

Environmental Scientist

Dana is a PhD student at the University of Maryland in the U.S. She is researching the occurrence of anaerobic oxidation of methane coupled to denitrification in nitrogen-rich groundwater and soils.

Dana got into environmental science in college. In her first year, she started training as a leader for the school's outdoor adventures program. She reconnected with her love for nature through rock climbing, backpacking, caving, and canoeing. Although she had started college with an undecided major, her time spent in the outdoor adventures program encouraged her to become an environmental science major. She became heavily committed to protecting the environment. As an undergraduate environmental research assistant, she participated in research that could be applied to cleaning up the local waterways. Dana decided that she wanted to spend her life researching the environment and teaching others about the impact that humans have on the world around us.
