Daniel Amos
CEO, Aflac
Dan Amos is chairman and chief executive officer of Aflac and Aflac Incorporated.
Amos first joined Aflac in 1973 as a sales associate while in his teens. He served as state manager of Aflac's Alabama/West Florida Territory for 10 years. Under his leadership, his sales territory was the No. 1 producing area in 1981 and 1982. In 1983, Amos was named president of Aflac and chief operating officer of Aflac in 1987. He became chief executive officer of Aflac Incorporated in 1990 and was named chairman of Aflac's board of directors in 2001.
During Amos' tenure as CEO, revenues at Aflac have grown from $2.7 billion to $23.9 billion as of December 31, 2013.
In 2000, Amos was the driving force in launching the company's enduring national advertising campaign featuring the iconic Aflac Duck, which transformed Aflac into a top national brand. In 2014, Aflac was named by FORTUNE magazine as one of America's Most Admired Companies for the 13th time. Aflac is also the only insurance company to appear for 16 consecutive years on FORTUNE's list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For and on Ethisphere® Institute's annual list of the World's Most Ethical Companies for eight consecutive years.
Amos is a past recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Award and the Anti-Defamation League's Torch of Liberty Award. In 2010, he was named as one of America's Best CEOs in the insurance category by Institutional Investor magazine, the fifth time he has appeared on the prestigious list. He has also been listed on Chief Executive magazine's Wealth Creation Index as one of the top 50 CEOs since the index's inception in 2008. In 2014, Amos was also named by Ethisphere magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics for the second time.
Amos is a member of the board of trustees of the House of Mercy of Columbus. He previously served as a member of the Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He is a former member of the board of trustees of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He is also the former chairman of the board of The Japan-America Society of Georgia and former chairman of the University of Georgia Foundation.
Amos earned a bachelor's degree in insurance and risk management from the University of Georgia.
