Accountability Consultant

Dan believes the future will reward organizations that openly plan their pursuit of value in intentional, accountable systems. Dan designs accountable organizations with a focus on governance, internal control and risk management. Dan has built large audit and consulting team methods and models for most of his 22-year career. He is a student of leading practice research with a particular focus on what contributes to needed organizational outcomes.

In 2019, the Internal Audit Foundation publish a largely new book entitled, Sawyers 7th Edition – Enhancing and Protecting Organizational Value. The book tackles the future of auditing in a changing world. The book represents one of the guiding publications for internal auditors around the globe numbering approximately 1.8 Million. Dan guided the design of this publication, wrote a significant portion and acted as a primary content editor of other contributing authors. He also completed a conference circuit in 2019 marketing the new publication.

Subsequently, Dan has presented in national and international conferences. Most recently he was invited by Director General Manfred Kraff of the European Commission to present at their November 2019 conference in Brussels, Belgium for European Commission and other EU agency auditors and consultants.

From May 2013 to May 2019 Dan served as a Director of Strategy and Knowledge Management for the University of Texas System Audit Office. For the preceding ten years he served in a similar role for CHAN Healthcare, the United States largest provider of healthcare internal audit - serving more than 12 percent of US hospitals. As of May 2019, Dan Clayton has worked as an independent management consultant.
