Daniel Gallagher

Former SEC Commissioner

Confirmed by the Senate as an SEC Commissioner in 2011, Dan Gallagher was on the front lines of the agency’s response to the financial crisis. He has a strong record for speaking out on behalf of business and a reputation for being an outspoken critic on the rules of Dodd-Frank. He pushed to make it easier for small companies to raise capital and advocated for the agency to undertake a major review of the rules governing stock exchanges.

During his tenure at the SEC, Gallagher focused on initiatives aimed at strengthening capital markets and encouraging small business capital formation, including staunchly supporting the changes introduced by the JOBS Act. He was an outspoken and frequent advocate for conducting a comprehensive holistic review of equity market structure issues; increasing the commission’s focus on the fixed income markets, both corporate and municipal; addressing the increasing power of proxy advisory firms; and eliminating special privileges for credit rating agencies.

Former SEC Commissioner Dan Gallagher has strong opinions of Dodd-Frank and an insider’s view of the current and coming regulatory environment. Having witnessed first-hand the SEC response to the financial crisis, as well as the liquidation of Lehman Brothers and the downfall of Bernie Madoff, he knows what the SEC should be spending its time on—and what is good for businesses. He is uniquely positioned to speak to regulatory change and how new securities and trading laws will impact the financial and corporate worlds. Outspoken, forward-thinking, and self-deprecating, Dan’s speeches bring to life the pivotal SEC moments we all read about in the Wall Street Journal, reflect on the “critically important” SEC response to come, and break down what it will all mean for the audience at hand.
