Daniel Tunkelang leads LinkedIn's efforts around query understanding. Before that, he built and led the product data science team, which analyzes terabytes of data to produce products and insights that serve LinkedIn’s 200M+ members.

Prior to LinkedIn, he led a local search quality team at Google and was a founding employee of faceted search pioneer Endeca (acquired by Oracle in 2011), where he spent ten years as chief scientist.

He has authored 15 patents, written a textbook on faceted search, created the annual symposium on human-computer interaction and information retrieval (HCIR), and regularly participate in the premier international conferences on information retrieval, recommender systems, web science, and data mining. He holds a PhD in computer science from CMU, as well as BS and MS degrees from MIT.
