Brigadier General and Assistant Division Commander, U.S. Marine Corps

Daniel Yoo is a brigadier general and assistant division commander in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton. In 2014, he was commander of Regional Command (Southwest) and commanding general of the Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Afghanistan. He has served as commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego; the 4th Marine Regiment and Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan. Yoo has been commandant of the Marine Corps' military fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and was a national security affairs fellow at the Hoover Institution. He began his military career in March 1985, as a second lieutenant after completing Officer Candidate School. He has received many awards, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Gold Star and Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He is a Marine combatant diver, a military freefall parachutist and a graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School. Yoo holds a B.S. from Arizona State University.
