TV, Film & Broadway Actress Known for "Orange is the New Black," "Peacemaker" & "The Color Purple"

Danielle Brooks is an actress, singer, and producer best known for her roles as Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson on the comedy-drama series "Orange Is the New Black" and Leota Adebayo on the superhero series "Peacemaker."

In 2015, Brooks made her Broadway debut in the musical revival of The Color Purple, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and winning a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. In 2023, she reprised her role in the film adaptation of The Color Purple, which garnered her widespread acclaim and her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She returned to Broadway in the revival of the August Wilson play "The Piano Lesson" in 2022.

Brooks has also appeared in the HBO series "Girls," Netflix's "Master of None," and the animated sitcom "Close Enough." In 2021, she received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Television Movie as an executive producer on "Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia." Her latest roles include voice work on the animated musical comedy Netflix series "Karma's World" and the Max superhero series "Peacemaker," based on the DC Comic character of the same name.
