British Paralympic Gold Medalist, Event Host & TV Presenter

Motivational and inspirational, Danny Crates is one of the UK's most successful paralympic athletes of all time. A former Paralympic world record holder in the 800 meters, he has also won every major title including The World Championships, European Championships and The Paralympic World Cup.

Destined for a sporting life, Crate’s life completely changed when he lost his right arm in a car crash in 1994. Undeterred, he was back to playing full-contact rugby within a year.

After years of training, he earned a bronze medal in the 400 meters at the Sydney Paralympics in 2000 before attaining gold in the 800 meters at Athens four years later. An inspirational speaker, Crates was then chosen to be the flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008.

After retiring from his glittering athletic career, Crates has since become a leading media personality and presenter. He has helped to host Channel 4’s BAFTA award-winning coverage of the Paralympics in 2012 and 2016, and most recently presented the BDO World Darts Championships as well as reporting for top BBC shows Inside Out and Truth or Scare. In addition to this, he can be heard on his own BBC radio show.

He has also published his autobiography “Danny Boy” which was chosen as the Evening Standard top Sports Book of the Year 2012 and in 2015, was a quarter-finalist in Celebrity MasterChef.
