Hall-of-Fame NFL Cornerback Known for his Time with the Washington Redskins

Darrell Green is best known as a former cornerback with the Washington Redskins. During his record-setting 20-year career with one team he became known and lovingly referred to as “Mr. Redskin.” His on-field accomplishments include two Super Bowl victories, seven selections to the Pro Bowl, four NFL’s Fastest Man Competition Champion and in 2015 NFL films declared Darrell as the Fastest Player in NFL History.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. In 2019, he was honored as a member of the All-Time Greatest 100. Darrell Green is also well known throughout the country for his work off the field. As a proponent of education, service, and moral development, he founded The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation (DGYLF) in 1988 where he continues to oversee its operations. In 1993 he launched the Youth Life Learning Centers that today, 29 years later are still successfully serving children and youth in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

In 2014 Green’s continued passion and drive to develop youth, led him to create in partnership with the Centene Corporation, a national leader in health care, a youth summit initiative called Strong Youth Strong Communities, a speaking tour (supported by a web portal called re-engage) designed to captivate, teach, motivate and encourage youth based audiences throughout the country on how to build strong, sustainable non-negotiable standards to carry them into their futures on an ongoing basis.

Green completed his Bachelor of Science degree in social science at St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. In 1999, Marymount University recognized him for his extraordinary humanitarian endeavors and conferred upon him the honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degree. In 2002, George Washington University and St. Paul’s College awarded Green his second and third honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters degrees. Green serves as a founding director of Main Street Bank, a Virginia based community banking system that surpassed one billion dollars in assets in 2018.

Green serves on the boards of multiple not-for-profits including Thanks USA, Every Child Fed, The Orlando World Outreach Center and most recently, he accepted an extraordinary invitation to join the RFK Human Rights Leadership Council, an organization that has stood as one of the world’s leaders in advocating for a more just and peaceful world since 1968. Darrell Green met his wife Jewell in 1983 and they have been married for 37 years. The couple has 4 adult children and 14 beautiful grandkids.
