Dave Carey      

Retired Navy Captain & Speaker

Dave Carey is a motivational speaker, consultant, coach and author. As a motivational speaker, Dave uses the lessons of his POW experience as a framework to help individuals and organizations meet personal and professional challenges, redefine priorities, grow and achieve higher performance.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Dave became a carrier-based pilot during the Vietnam War. He was a Commanding Officer on three occasions and served as Director of the Navy's premier site for leadership and management training. In this role he personally conducted seminars for prospective commanding and executive officers as well as senior government service employees.

During the Vietnam era, while flying a combat mission over North Vietnam, his aircraft was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. After his plane was shot down, he was interred as a POW in Hanoi for five and a half years. His experience taught him timeless lessons that he finds applicable to leaders and managers at all levels.

Today Dave relates his experiences as a POW to help people better understand the challenges they may face their personal and professional lives. His personal story inspires and empowers others to overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties and gain a renewed sense of purpose, satisfaction and control over their circumstances.

Dave’s in-depth knowledge of the issues of team work, leadership and organizational productivity utilizes over twenty years of his senior management experience. His consulting and training work focuses on value centered leadership, team building, and organizational change. He is an expert in improving how people work together.

Among his military honors are the Legion of Merit, five Bronze Stars, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Purple Heart, eight Air Medals and the Navy Commendation Medal.
