Dave Nielsen

Cloud Computing Evangelist & Entrepreneur.

When it comes to web technology, Dave Nielsen has always been ahead of the curve. Since the '90s, he has served as an early adopter and evangelist for the three major web paradigm shifts—web applications, web services, and cloud computing. In 1997, he was among the first to teach others how to develop dynamic web applications. Soon after, Nielsen started the first web service user group on the planet called the Web Services SIG, which has since changed its name to Cloud Computing SIG.

Nielsen is the co-founder of CloudCamp, the largest grassroots cloud computing organization in the world. He is also the principal consultant at Platform D, a strategic consulting company, where he helps companies market their cloud-based technologies to developers.

Prior to Platform D, Nielsen was one of the first Web API evangelists, serving as PayPal's first technical evangelist. He went on to grow the PayPal Developer Network to over 350,000 developers. As one of the original web services industry professionals, Nielsen has had to stay at the forefront of "what's next," constantly shifting roles within web services.

Nielsen—who has gained notoriety for his acronym OSSM ("awesome"), which stands for On-Demand, Self-Service, Scalable, Measurable—is the author of The Four Essential Characteristics of Cloud Computing. He often speaks at conferences about the confluence of these concepts and how they help companies benefit from cloud computing. Nielsen is currently working on a certification program to help differentiate between products that claim to provide cloud computing and those that actually do.

A seasoned developer, entrepreneur, technical evangelist, and director of partner programs, Nielsen has the experience and credibility to help guide your product strategy and create a successful developer marketing experience.
