David Reeder founded Captain Dave Inc. in 1998 as an e-commerce retailer selling emergency food and supplies to consumers preparing for Y2K. The company has evolved into an outdoor adventure store and has grown from David’s basement into a warehouse and has expanded its footprint three times in the past five years. Captain Dave's has been a third-party Amazon.com seller since 2004 and sells on eBay. David describes himself as a refugee from Corporate America and finds that applying Fortune 500 thinking to a small, entrepreneurial business can result in a strategic advantage over competitors who have not learned how to think big.
