Dave Scott is the most recognized athlete and coach in the sport of triathlon. As a U.S. triathlete, he is the first six-time Ironman World Champion and the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame. Notably, Scott's time and approach in his first Hawaii Ironman win in 1980 changed the Ironman from a test of endurance to a race, marking a significant evolution in the sport. His fierce rivalry with Mark Allen led to an impressive run of victories, securing three of the next four Ironman races against him.
Scott's career in triathlon began with the inception of the sport in 1976. His first venture into triathlon was at an event in San Francisco, where he won and received a turkey as a prize. He continued to dominate the Ironman World Championship in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1987. In 1993, he was honored for his accomplishments in the sport and became the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of Fame. To celebrate, Scott came out of retirement, and at the age of forty, after a five-year absence from competition, he nearly won for a record-breaking seventh time at the 1994 Hawaii Ironman World Championship. This awe-inspiring performance, against an impressive field of athletes, many of whom were in their twenties, earned him a new moniker among the triathlon community - "The Man."
Today, Scott is not only an accomplished athlete but also a renowned author, having published "Dave Scott's Triathlon Training" in 1986, and a respected commentator. He also works as a triathlon coach, fitness consultant, motivational speaker, and corporate consultant. Since 1999, he has been the head coach for Team in Training. He has also been featured in the Luray Triathlon and even made contributions to the dietary discussions in the sport with an article titled "Will Becoming A Vegan Improve My Performance?". Despite experimenting with vegetarian and vegan diets in the past, Scott now follows a plant-based diet with the inclusion of chicken and fish. Based in Boulder, Colorado, he devotes his time to educating and inspiring athletes of all abilities and ages, leading sports camps, clinics, and races across the country. His company, Dave Scott, Inc., offers individual and group fitness and nutrition consultations, innovative strength & flexibility e-program exercises, multi-media sports analysis and training tips, video analysis, and corporate and tri-club speaking engagements and clinics.
