Mr. Sweere and his son were invited to visit Ukraine in 1990 by the Gorbachev delegation“to see if we could help with the imported protein situation in Ukraine”. After spending 6 weeks in the country, Mr. Sweere realized that Ukraine could become protein self sufficient if they accessed modern world class short maturing soybeans and produced and processed them locally. Soon afterwards, Mr. Sweere received a $2 million grant from the U.S. government to build the first private grain storage center in Ukraine. As a result of the investment 20 years later Ukraine becomes one of the six countries in the world which is vegetable protein self-sufficient and is able to produce its milk, meat and eggs without importing the feed primary ingredients from outside Ukraine. Kyiv-Atlantic group has played a very important role in the economic development of Ukraine, and is now looking to enter international capital markets.
