David Damberger      

Founding Contributor, Engineers Without Borders; Co-Founder, Ethical Ocean

David is a change leader with a focus on economic, business and social development.

He is a founding contributor of Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) where he spent 8 years. David was the founder of the Calgary chapter and helped build EWB's overseas programs as the first Director of Southern Africa programs, working in the sectors of agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, and water and sanitation. He consulted for and partnered with 45 development focused companies, non-profits and government agencies and managed over 50 EWB staff. Prior, David worked on a private sector development project in Zambia and a rural development project in India.

David is a co-founder of Ethical Ocean, an e-commerce marketplace for the worlds top fair-trade, eco-friendly and sweatshop free products. David led the company's business strategy portfolio and helped the company raise its first angel round of financing. He was fortunate to pitch Ethical Ocean on the top Canadian venture capital TV show "Dragons Den", where he was called a "Stain on the Face of Capitalism" because of the businesses social impact focus.

David also worked as a corporate strategy consultant with Canada's leading wireless carrier and is a researcher on mobile technology business models in development at the Institute for Mobile Technology in Toronto. David holds a degree in engineering and a minor in entrepreneurship from the University of Calgary. David was recognized as the youngest member of the Top 40 Alumni in the History of the University of Calgary.

Recently, David presented a TEDx talk on ways of improving the effectiveness of international aid sector where he addressed the question "Has Aid Failed?"
