Founder & CEO at Elemental Cognition; AI Expert & Project Leader for Watson Computer System

Dr. David Ferrucci is an award-winning artificial intelligence (AI) researcher who built and led the IBM Watson team from its inception in 2006 to its landmark success in 2011 when Watson defeated the greatest Jeopardy! players of all time. Dr. Ferrucci’s more than 25 years in AI and his passion to see computers fluently reason, learn, and communicate inspired him to found Elemental Cognition (EC) in 2015, a leading artificial intelligence company that develops scalable and transparent AI solutions for businesses and organizations.

Dr. Ferrucci graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Ph.D. in Computer Science and has over 100 patents and publications. In addition to working at IBM Research, where he was named an IBM Fellow, he directed AI research at Bridgewater Associates. He has keynoted at highly distinguished venues around the world. He has won many awards for his work creating UIMA and Watson, including the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s Innovation Award and the AAAI Feigenbaum Prize.

Dr. Ferrucci serves as a member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering and is an Adjunct Professor of Management and Organizations at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
