David Murdock is an American businessman and real estate mogul who is the chairman of Dole Foods.

David Murdock is an American businessman and real estate mogul who is the chairman of Dole Foods. Shockingly Murdock never graduated high school; he dropped out and was drafted into the army for WWII in 1943. Upon his return Murdock was homeless for a time until a good samaritan loaned him $1,200 to buy a closing diner. From there Murdock made some wise real estate moves eventually moving to Los Angeles where he made a string of business acquisitions. Most important of these was the 1985 acquisition of the Hawaiian firm Castle & Cooke, a produce company which owned pineapple and banana producer Dole Foods. Murdock took this failing food company and turned it into one of the most successful in the world.

According to Forbes David Murdock has an estimated wealth of $2.7 billion which makes him the 123rd richest person in the United States. Murdock is committed to donating part of his fortune to causes which promote healthy living. The 88-year-old business tycoon has said that he credits a healthy and active lifestyle with his longevity.
