Deborah Temkin, Ph.D. is a recognized expert in human development and education policy. She currently focuses on bullying, cyberbullying, adolescent peer relations, school climate, and safe schools.

Deborah is currently at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights where she created and launched Project SEATBELT (Safe Environments Achieved Through Bullying prevention, Engagement, Leadership, and Teaching respect). From 2010 to 2012 Deborah was the Research and Policy Coordinator for Bullying Prevention Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Education where she lead the Obama administration’s efforts around bullying prevention. During that time, she managed the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention, a coalition of 9 federal departments working together on the issue of bullying. Deborah led the planning and execution of three annual Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention Summits and helped coordinate the 2011 White House Conference on Bullying Prevention. She also oversaw the creation and content development for StopBullying.gov, the government’s central repository for information on bullying. In May 2011, Deborah was recognized as a finalist for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals for her work.

Deborah holds a doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies from the Pennsylvania State University, where her research focused on bullying, adolescent social networks, and education policy. Deborah also holds a Master of Arts in Education Theory and Policy. Deborah is married and resides in Rockville, MD with her husband, a dog named Miles, and a cat named Skittle.
