Denis Grignon

Stand-Up Comic & Writer

It’s hard to pigeonhole comedian Denis Grignon. Indeed, he’s not only very, very funny; his background means he’s also an extremely versatile comedian who knows how to research his audiences.

As a comedian, Grignon has earned enthusiastic praise for everything from writing awards shows - which have been hosted by the likes of Steve “Red Green” Smith and members of the Royal Canadian Air Farce - to his own hilarious digs at politics and corporate culture.  It’s one reason his clean and clever comedy is seen regularly on the Comedy Network. Grignon has also been featured four times on the hit national radio show, Madly Off in All Directions. A former journalist, he still contributes regularly to the CBC as well as major magazines and newspapers.

Grignon’s brand of comedy works above the neck, not below the belt – regardless of the type of audience. (And he can do it in two official languages!) The Ottawa Citizen calls him, “A sharp and likeable comic who respects an audience’s intelligence, while The Globe and Mail says he’s “wonderfully relaxed.” The Voice of the Farmer, said his comedy is “a refreshing change.” You’ll say he’s hilarious.

Grignon also spent quite a bit of time ‘on the farm;’ He even ran a small hog operation and, with his wife and two sons, still raises laying and meat hens at his home in rural Ontario.

Comedy

Sure, Denis Grignon can – and does – perform his standup comedy routine to urban and corporate audience, drawing on his many years experience as journalist and as a corporate writer. But his true heart and passion are in the country. He knows what rural audiences enjoy because he’s a rural guy himself. And much of his act – its material but especially its tone - reflects life beyond the big cities. After all, how many comedians have to head home after the show to shut the chickens in? A true crowd pleaser for any audience, Grignon can make the CEO laugh as heartily as the woman who runs sells the best corn at that outdoor market.
