Head Football Coach of Vanderbilt Commodores

Derek Mason is an American football coach and former football cornerback who is currently the head coach at Vanderbilt University. Mason was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and he began his career playing high school football where he was a four-year letterman and two-year starter. Mason went on to play college football at Northern Arizona and after graduating, he began his coaching career working as the wide receivers coach for Mesa Community College. He then worked as the wide receivers coach at Weber State, was the running backs coach for Idaho State, defensive backs coach for Bucknell, and the wide receivers and special teams coach for Utah. He was then the assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator coach at St. Mary’s and worked as the wide receivers coach at New Mexico State, and then Ohio. Mason then stepped award from coaching universities to work as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings. He then went back to coaching universities working as the defensive back then assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator, and then defensive coordinator coach for Stanford.
