Nationally Recognized Urban Planner; Principal & Co-Founder of Houseal Lavigne Associates

Devin Lavigne is a nationally recognized figure in urban planning, distinguished by his expertise in urban design, geographic information systems (GIS), and development visualization. As a principal and co-founder of Houseal Lavigne Associates, his innovative projects have brought the firm national recognition, earning several prestigious awards including the National Excellence Award from the American Planning Association, Esri’s Most Innovative Partner Award, and multiple Special Achievement in GIS Awards.

Lavigne is known in the industry for his illustrations, graphics and ability to communicate planning and development concepts clearly and concisely. He has managed, directed, authored, and contributed to numerous plans throughout the country, and has received multiple awards for these efforts, including a Planning Excellence Award from the American Planning Association for an Emerging Planning and Design Firm.

Well-regarded for his contributions as a speaker, Lavigne has presented at over 50 conferences and events on a wide range of topics from GIS and visualization tools to corridor planning and geodesign. His insights have been shared at events such as the National Planning Conference, regional APA conferences, SketchUp's 3D Basecamp, the Esri User Conference, and the Esri Geodesign Summit.

Prior to co-founding Houseal Lavigne Associates, Lavigne was the Senior Planning Manager for URS Corporation and Trkla, Pettigrew, Allen and Payne. He received his bachelor’s degree from the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Ontario.

In addition to his professional work, Lavigne has taught urban design and planning visualization to both graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is an adjunct lecturer at Penn State, teaching geodesign in their Master’s Degree program. Lavigne also contributes to the ongoing education of planners through his presentations at conferences and by co-creating the AICP exam preparation training series. Through Planning Prep, a resource he co-developed, he has provided over 12,000 planners with free access to study materials for the AICP exam, showcasing his dedication to the professional growth of planners.
