Dianne McGrath

Researcher, Consultant & Sustainability Leader; Formerly a Mars One Astronaut Candidate & Currently Circumnavigating the Planet

Dianne McGrath is one of Australia's most highly regarded experts on sustainability. She aims to lead a purposeful life that creates better environmental outcomes. To this end, she is a member of Stop Food Waste Australia and the director of the sustainability and business consultancy Food For Thought Consulting Australia.

McGrath lives life challenging what others think impossible, whether that was to live a year with no single-use plastics, prepare for a fully sustainable one-way mission to Mars, choose to circumnavigate our planet to help protect our oceans – our future, cycle extreme distances, sail gale storms in a tall ship in the Southern Ocean or biohack her body and mind to become Dianne 2.0.

McGrath was a candidate for the Mars One project when it was announced in 2012 and was one of seven Australians to make the final 100 candidates. She spent years preparing herself for a one-way journey to another planet. However, the project was canceled in 2019, and McGrath decided to put her time and energy elsewhere: by circumnavigating the Earth. More people have clibed Mount Everest than have circumnavigated the planet, and McGrath is one of 23 other people on the 11-month voyage across the globe.

McGrath has over nine years of professional speaking experience and is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP). She has presented to over half a million people worldwide, including global corporations, C-suite executives, government, education, and non-profit organizations. This has included keynote addresses, workshops, intimate dinners, and more.

McGrath gained a PhD in Environmental Engineering, Graduate Diplomas in Sustainable Practice, Environmental Management, and Marketing, and a Bachelor of Education.
