Academic Career and Academic Memberships

Dimitar Ivanov (59) has been university professor since qualifying as economist in 1972.He has taught (Paris, Moscow, Sofia, Tokyo, Pittsburgh, Warwick, Sheffield, London) and published widely in the field of international economics and finance, public sector restructuring; restructuring of the emerging market economies; economic crises and cycles; foreign investment climate and competitiveness; Eastern European reforms. He has contributed chapters to many international volumes and has published 6 books and more than 300 papers, including journal & review articles in, amongst others, European Business and Economic Development (UK); The International Journal of Organizational Analysis (USA); Journal of East-West Business (USA); The Economist; The Independent.

Dimitar Ivanov has extensive advising and business experience in East European & Russian economic & political affairs. In 1990, he was invited for an official visit to the USA as a honorary guest of the Council of the Economics Advisors of President George Bush Sr. His works on the results of the reforms in the emerging markets and his expertise are regularly used by the IMF, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, the G-20, the EC, and UNIDO. Since 1988, he is senior economic consultant to UNIDO.

He is member of the Academy of International Business, USA, the Royal Economic Society, UK, the Strategic Planning Society, UK, and the European Economic Association.

He is also associate member of the Heritage Foundation, USA. Dr. Ivanov received his Ph.D. in Economics at the age of 29 and attended the senior doctoral program at the prestigious Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris under the personal guidance of Professor Raymond Barre (former Prime Minister of France). He is also Founder and actual First Vice President of the Bulgarian Academy of Science & Arts in charge of the international activities of the Academy.

Dr Ivanov is one of the most demanded international speakers on the reforms in Central & Eastern Europe and Russia and the actual global economic and financial crisis; a honoured guest-speaker of many international TV and radio stations. In 2008, Dimitar Ivanov was invited to sign up with the JLA - the The UK's biggest specialist agency for Keynote, Motivational and Conference Speakers.

Foreign investors in CEE very well know his expertise and reputation as consultant in the field of economic, industrial and financial restructuring, and M&A transactions. Dr Ivanov has been very active in the region for the last 20 years and instrumental in many major infrastructure cross-border projects. Major investment banks as Bank Austria, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Rothschild, UniCredit, as well as a number of Fortune 500 corporations asked Dr. Ivanov to serve as senior strategic consultant for their investment activities in Central & Eastern Europe and the CIS countries. He is Founder and Director of MAA Global Consulting in London.

Awards

Dr. Ivanov is recipient in 1987 of the Golden Order of the State Council of Republic of Bulgaria for his research and academic achievements in the field of economics and in the management of the national economy. In 2006, he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa of the Economics Academy of Svichtov, Bulgaria.
