Dominick Evans

Filmmaker, Consultant on Disability & LGBTQIA Representation in Hollywood/Video Games, FilmDis Founder, Twitch Streamer

Dominick Evans is a multiply disabled (SMA, OCD, ADD, anxiety, chronic pain), wheelchair using non-binary trans queer filmmaker, writer, gamer, streamer, film scholar, dad, and nerd. He has a BFA in Film and also studied political science. In 2014, he founded the Twitter chat #FilmDis, a discussion on disability representation, which evolved into FilmDis, a media monitoring organization that offers a multitude of services to studios and filmmakers. Evans and his partner, Ashtyn, just released their second study into disability representation on television – examining representation on 250 television shows that aired in one year through an intersectional lens.

As a gamer Evans appears on Twitch, where he typically plays games laying down due to chronic pain which makes sitting in his wheelchair for extended periods difficult. Evans streams four days a week with Ashtyn. Through gaming, he has fought for the inclusion of disabled people on Twitch and in other aspects of gaming culture.

As a prolific public speaker, Evans has spoken at events around the world. Some highlights include two years at New York Comic Con, at the White House where he traveled by robot and mentored young disabled media makers, and for corporate events in Australia and England. Since 2019, he’s been working with major studios out of Hollywood and in the UK, with the hope of creating accessible spaces and opportunities for disabled people in all aspects of the media industry.
