Donald Glover is an actor, musician, comedian, director, producer, and screenwriter. Before his breakthrough as a television actor, Glover was hired at age 23 by Tina Fey as a writer for the NBC sitcom "30 Rock," and subsequently won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series in 2008 for his work on the show. He later rose to fame for portraying college student Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom "Community." Glover's film career includes roles in commercially successful films such as "The Lazarus Effect," "Magic Mike XXL," "The Martian," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "Solo: A Star Wars Story," and "The Lion King." In his music career, Glover's first studio album "Camp," was released in 2011 under Glassnote Records followed by "Because the Internet." His third album, "Awaken, My Love!" earned him his first Grammy Award. His single "This Is America," which was released in 2018, debuted at number one on the Hot 100 and won multiple Grammy Awards. His fourth studio album, "3.15.20," was released in 2020 and plans are underway to re-release this album as "Atavista." In 2024, Glover released his fifth album "Bando Stone & The New World," with a subsequent world tour announced in support of both albums. However, Glover announced that his fifth album would be his last and that he would be retiring Childish Gambino.
