Actress and broadcast journalist Donna Hanover became prominent in 1994 as the wife of New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. In addition to her role as the First Lady of New York City, she was also an active participant in various health and educational initiatives around the city. Hanover was married to Giuliani for 18 years, from 1984 until their divorce was finalized in 2002. They share two children, Andrew and Caroline.

Hanover's journey in the field of communication began with her academic pursuit at Stanford University, where she graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She later advanced her education at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, earning a master's degree. Her broadcasting career began with television journalism positions around the country, including WKTV in Utica, New York, WTVN-TV in Columbus, Ohio, and KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In the second half of the 1980s, Hanover worked as the lead anchor for the 7:30 pm weeknight newscast at WPIX, a station in New York City. She also had a stint at WCKT in Miami, Florida, where she met her then-husband, Giuliani. Following her tenure as New York City's First Lady, Hanover continued her journalism career with engagements such as hosting the Fine Living cable channel's "Famous Homes & Hideaways" program in 2005 and working as a fill-in host and film critic for New York radio station WOR. She also served as an adjunct professor at New York University's Department of Journalism.

With a proclivity for acting, Hanover has appeared in several films and television series throughout her career. Her roles include performances in "The People vs. Larry Flynt," "Ransom," "Superstar," "Keeping the Faith," "Someone Like You," and "Interview." She had a recurring role as Judge Deborah Bourke on the television series "Law & Order." Hanover also graced the Broadway stage, making her debut in "Gore Vidal's The Best Man" in 2012 and appearing in the off-Broadway play "Picked" in 2011. In 2000, she accepted the lead role in Eve Ensler's play "The Vagina Monologues."

Hanover is a journalist at CUNY TV in New York City, where she serves as a correspondent on shows like "Arts in the City" and "Simply Science." Her dedication to her work has earned her several accolades, including the Pinnacle Award from American Women in Radio & Television in the 1980s and the New York State Broadcasters Association's Outstanding On-Air Broadcast Team award in 2007. Hanover is also an author, having published "My Boyfriend's Back: 50 True Stories of Reconnecting with a Long-Lost Love" in 2005. In 2003, she married Edwin Oster.
