Architect, Urbanist, Author & Advocate for Sustainable Design Thinking

Deemed one of the 100 most influential urbanists of all time, Douglas Farr is an architect, urbanist, author, and passionate advocate for sustainable design thinking. He is the founding principal and president of Farr Associates, co-chair of the development of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND), and has served on the boards of the Congress for the New Urbanism, Bioregional, EcoDistricts, and Elevate Energy.

In 2017, Planetizen readers named him one of "the 100 most influential urbanists of all time.” Farr wrote Sustainable Urbanism: Urban Design With Nature (November 2007, Wiley) and Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future (April 2018, Wiley), which was named by Planetizen as one of the top 10 Urban Planning Books of 2018.

Based on his pioneering sustainable design practice, he authored the urban planning best-seller, "Sustainable Urbanism: Urban Design with Nature" in 2008, followed by "Sustainable Nation: Urban Design Patterns for the Future".

Farr's insights have been celebrated internationally, and he speaks regularly at world-class conferences. His design philosophy is centered on the notion that the world needs to change, and we are the ones to initiate it.
