Speech Topics

Sexual Reflections: Practical Application Of The Katehakis Sex Therapy Model

Keynote Speech at IITAP. The IITAP Symposium is an annual event in which members of the IITAP community gather to share ideas and learn of the latest research. Keynotes include experts in the field of trauma treatment and addiction.

Walking in Your Shoes: Tracking the Inherent Wisdom of the Body

Sex addiction can be conceptualized as stereotyped, predictable behavioral patterns leading to a loss of complexity in the individual often due to dissociative structures born of childhood trauma. Many CSATs recognize the importance of moving into disowned areas in the client once they are maintaining sexual sobriety, but lack a roadmap for how to effectively proceed with treating underlying trauma. This experiential workshop will discuss and demonstrate a simple process known as Walking-In-Your-Shoes (WIYS). WIYS is a body/mind process co-developed by Alexandra Katehakis and a small team of therapists and actors in the early 1990’s. "We learned that anyone could do this work because the answers are in the inherent wisdom of the body."

Sex Addiction as Affect Dysregulation: A Neurobiologically Informed Holistic Treatment

A panel of national and international experts presents an overview of emotional, relational and sexual addictions, in order to develop transversal knowledge and updated skills for understanding, psychodiagnostic evaluation and therapeutic and pharmacological treatment.

Among the topics covered, emotional and relational addiction will be explored in depth, such as its psychogenesis pertinent to the narcissistic sphere, sexual addiction, sexual compulsivity and disorders related to paraphilias, porn addiction, craving, addiction to virtual relationships, interpersonal dynamics and the specific couple or group treatment for the connection between co-dependents and the counter-dependent with the emotional dependent.

The purpose of the meeting is therefore to provide professionals with specific knowledge and skills, analyzing the different current perspectives presented by experts and researchers from all over the world.

Erotic Intelligence In Action: A Sex Life Worth Having

Too often, couples in recovery struggle to achieve a sex life worth having. They feel stuck, bored, or afraid to move forward due to a lack of trust and safety. Fractured by infidelity and captured by the myth that great sex is spontaneous and should be easy, their sex life tanks. When couples are willing to put as much attention on repairing their erotic life as on their recovery, there’s a way forward. Join Alexandra Katehakis, Ph.D. for an explicit discussion of the steps necessary for couples to be sexual over time.
