Dr. Gerald W. Cockrell  

In recognition for his work in systems and automation, Gerald W. Cockrell, Ed.D., professor of electronics and computer technology at Indiana State University, has been selected by ISA, a global, nonprofit organization for automation, to receive the Donal

 eld in conjunction with ISA EXPO 2006, the awards gala will take place Oct. 16, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Houston Hotel in Houston, Tex.

A professor in ISU?s College of Technology, Dr. Cockrell is being recognized for outstanding dedication and innovation in training; student competitions; and in international distance education in instrumentation, systems and automation.

Cockrell is a recognized international leader in the development and delivery of distance (internet-based) process control and automation programs and courses. He is a pioneer in the design and development of distance delivery of real-time laboratory experience. Cockrell developed a distance degree program for the ISU Master of Science in Electronics and Computer Technology. He established a distance project management course with the Saint Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI) in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and coordinated an exchange program between SUAI and Indiana State U.

A senior Member of ISA, Cockrell spearheaded the development of the Society's scholarship program for technical, undergraduate and graduate students. He was instrumental in the creation of the International Student Bowl competition held in conjunction with ISA's annual EXPO event each Fall and in conducting student competitions at the District level.
