Julie Silver, MD is a Harvard doctor and breast cancer survivor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine with a focus on physical recovery. Dr. Julie Silver is the Chief Editor of Books at Harvard Health Publications (the consumer health branch of Harvard Medical School) and is an award-winning writer who has published more than a dozen books that focus on helping people to recover from serious illnesses and injuries. Cure magazine reviewed her book, After Cancer Treatment: Heal Faster, Better, Stronger: "This is one you need... I like that she understands." Library Journal named this book one of the top twenty health books released in 2006. Julie Silver's latest book was released by the American Cancer Society and is titled What Helped Get Me Through: Cancer Survivors Share Wisdom and Hope. For this book, she interviewed hundreds of cancer survivors including many celebrities and medical experts and asked them what really made a difference in helping them to heal. Though Dr. Julie Silver works with cancer survivors and is on the medical staff at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, she is an expert at helping people to heal, regardless of what kind of injury or illness they have suffered.

In 2003, Dr. Julie Silver was recognized for her work by the Boston Junior Chamber of Commerce with the Ten Outstanding Young Leaders (TOYL) award. That same year, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38. Following her toxic, though life-saving, treatments, she was exhausted and in poor physical health. After rehabilitating herself, Dr. Julie Silver founded a new program called RESTORE that focuses on helping cancer survivors physically recover. She is very active in cancer survivorship and is professionally active at the Harvard affiliated Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the Lance Armstrong Foundation Adult Survivorship Clinic.

Dr. Julie Silver's children also recently published two books with the American Cancer Society called Our Mom is Getting Better and Our Dad is Getting Better. These books are beautifully written and illustrated for children and provide a wonderful message about how families can heal after tragedy strikes. In 2008, her children won two national gold medal Mom's Choice awards for "most inspirational" and "best child authors" for their books. Occasionally, Dr. Julie Silver will do events with one or more of her children.

Today, Dr. Julie Silver's message is one of hope, healing and resilience. An upbeat speaker, with a very positive and powerful message, she is interested in empowering others and giving them the tools they need to be resilient and happy. She often speaks to women's groups and shares with them a message that focuses on healthy lifestyle choices, healing, resilience and personal and professional success. Julie Silver's physician colleagues in Massachusetts regularly select her to receive the annual "Top Doctors" award, and in 2006, the American Cancer Society bestowed her with the prestigious Lane Adams Quality of Life award in recognition for her work with cancer survivors. Julie Silver is also the recipient of a 2007 Exceptional Women award from Boston's Magic 106.7.
