Renowned Veterinarian, Star of Animal Planet's "Emergency Vets"; Stand-Up Comedian

Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald is renowned for his eleven seasons as one of the veterinarians on Animal Planet’s popular "Emergency Vets" and "E-Vet Interns." He has been a staff veterinarian at the VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver for nearly 30 years. In addition to his television work, Dr. Fitzgerald is also an active participant in the Denver-area stand-up comedy circuit, where he is billed as "the hardest working veterinarian in show business." His diverse skills even extend to tap dancing.

Dr. Fitzgerald not only practices veterinary medicine but also shares his knowledge through teaching and writing. He has been an assistant professor adjunct at the University of Denver for the past 25 years, teaching a course titled "Perspectives in Veterinary Medicine." His commitment to sharing knowledge extends to his writing as well. He has contributed chapters to medical texts on emergency veterinary medicine, toxicology, reptile medicine, and surgery. Dr. Fitzgerald also regularly offers his expertise as a veterinary consultant for the Aurora, Colorado, police department's K-9 division.

Fitzgerald has a rich history of public engagement, having appeared on programs like NPR's "Wait... Don't Tell Me," where he showcased his knowledge by correctly answering all three questions about BALCO founder Victor Conte. He has also starred in pet health reminder PSAs on Animal Planet called "Animal Tips With Dr. Fitz" and contributed to the Animal Planet animal welfare project "ROAR."

In the past, Fitzgerald has been recognized for his bachelor status, being named one of the 50 most eligible bachelors by People magazine in 2001. He has also held positions outside of veterinary medicine, such as teaching at the University of Hawaii and serving as a security personnel for various musical acts. Fitzgerald stresses the importance of exposing young vets to experiences with exotic animals and providing services for "working animals" like police dogs, reflecting his commitment to comprehensive animal care.
