Your Evolution is Tied to Your Destiny
Evolution is not change. Change is dictated by the cosmos of life and is often cyclical. That is why change is the only constant in a globalized world. A world that requires you to adapt whether you want to or not; however, evolution is a choice. It is the process that recognizes ones past experiences while acknowledging that a new mindset is required for the places yet traveled. You cannot evolve if your not spiritually, emotionally, and of course physically present in the moments of your life. Absence in any of these dimensions necessitates the relearning of the lesson missed, which slows you down on your journey toward your destiny.
Attendees Results:
- Understanding that crisis are inevitable in life; however, they are designed to grow us and encourage evolution not scare us.
- That the secret to life is identifying what you will do for free and get paid to do it.
- That passion is not aligned with money, but money will be made if you align with your passion.
- Walking away with stepping stones that helps one realize that they are evolving as the world is changing.
Accomplishing the Unthinkable During a Global Pandemic
History shows us that there is no better era in this county to be Black. I know that the images that you have consumed and digested during this pandemic may make you think otherwise but facts bear out that today is still a great day to be young gifted and Black. Your gifts of expression, acumen, and swag is being celebrated like never before; from the French braid turned box braid to underground hip-hop turning into mainstream rap. Who we are as a people is a converted commodity and we must not forget that your Black boy joy and Black girl magic is real; it is seen throughout the history of this country and is ever present today.
Attendees Results:
- Encourage and enthuse Black graduates at a predominantly White university before their larger university ceremony.
- Identifying historical occurrence where Black Americans have faced crisis and have taken on leadership roles to help society.
- Identifying ally’s indiscriminate of their ethnicity and political affiliation but basing allyship upon their commitment to bring solutions to crisis.
Harnessing Your Power to find the Courage to Lead with Confidence
What I did not realize was that I had allowed my power to ooze out of me. That if I was losing power is because I had given it up. That I had allowed one project, one goal, one organization and one team to use up all my power. I had forgotten that my leadership abilities reached further than a client or a project. Second piece of advice everyone has the ability to lead so if your leadership abilities are not being recognized in one place use them in other places in your life. Your obsession with using that leadership skill in a very narrow place in your life denies other people the room to lead in those spaces and stops you from being effective in the places you are most needed. If you are not being asked to take lead on the project, know that is your time to relinquish. Harness that power don’t allow it to ooze out of you so that your power is reserved for where you need most.
Attendees Results:
- The definition of power as the ability to convince people that what you define as important discourse must be acted upon, and how to control their individual power.
- The definition courage as the willingness to fully surrender to the call on your life, and how to identify what a call sounds, feels, and looks like.
- Presenting five action steps that can be repeated to harness their power and find the courage to lead with confidence.
The Wheels of Democratic Justice displayed in Lift Ever Voice and Sing
Democracy is at stake if we are not committed to the move of the wheels of justices. Forward on the stony road we trod, we must not be discouraged by the bitterness of the rod that wants to chasten us back to the days where our HOPE was unrealized and died. Democracy has always been an idea fought for in each generation. It’s our steady and continuous heartbeat which fights so that the places where our forefathers, and most importantly our foremothers, existed will not be places to sigh but to rejoice! That democracy in America has been fueled by ways that thousands of tears have watered. That those tears speak of Black worthiness displayed through the blood of the slaughtered. That although our gloomy past is undeniable we stand where a white gleam of our bright star is cast. A gleam cast concerning our hope in America and her democracy.
Attendees Results:
- Being introduced to Lift every voice and Sing by James Weldon Johnson; as well as an introduction to musical composer J. Rosamond Johnson.
- Understanding how this song reflects a racial history, but also a commitment to democracy.
- Understanding how justice is intrinsically tied to democracy, why democracy is in decline, and a formula to strengthen democracy for all.
