Earl Stevens, known professionally as E-40, is a prominent American rapper, entrepreneur, and actor. He is a pioneer of the Bay Area hip-hop scene and has been a key figure in West Coast rap since the early 1990s. E-40 is renowned for his distinctive voice, unique slang, and innovative delivery, which have influenced many artists in the hip-hop genre.
E-40’s music career began in the late 1980s when he formed The Click, a rap group with his cousins and siblings, and founded Sick Wid It Records. His solo debut, “Federal” (1993), was followed by his breakthrough album “In a Major Way” (1995), which brought him national attention. Over the years, E-40 has released over 25 studio albums and collaborated with numerous artists across genres, from rap icons like Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg to younger generations of rappers.
Beyond music, E-40 is a successful entrepreneur, particularly in the food and beverage industry. He has launched his own line of wines, called Earl Stevens Selections, and various alcoholic beverages, including a line of beers and a brand of tequila. His business ventures also extend to investments in tech startups and real estate.
E-40’s influence stretches far beyond his music, as he is known for coining and popularizing slang terms that have become part of mainstream culture. He remains an active force in the hip-hop community, continuing to release new music and mentor younger artists.
