Cassini Program Manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Earl Maize, a California native, has spent the vast majority of his 35-year career with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Maize completed his doctorate in mathematics at Claremont Graduate University in 1981 and took a job at the Aerospace Corporation, where he worked on the Air Force’s Inertial Upper Stage program. Two years later, he joined JPL, which is headquartered in Pasadena, CA. For JPL’s Galileo mission to Jupiter, which launched in 1989, Maize served as deputy orbiter engineering team chief and maneuver group lead. For NASA’s Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn, completed in partnership with the European Space Agency, Maize served as manager for spacecraft operations and later deputy program manager. His Cassini team won an Emmy award for Outstanding Original Interactive Program for its coverage of the spacecraft’s “Grand Finale,” during which Cassini orbited Saturn 22 times before plunging into the planet’s atmosphere.
