Eddie George Jr. is a former professional football player who notably won the Heisman Trophy in 1995 during his senior season at Ohio State University. This honor, along with his selection as the 1995 College Football All-America Team and winning the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Doak Walker awards, led to his selection as the 14th overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. The Oilers eventually became the Tennessee Titans, where George spent most of his career. He was recognized as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1996 and went on to have four consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 1997 to 2000. A key player for the Titans, George helped the team reach Super Bowl XXXIV and amassed over 10,000 rushing yards in his career, never missing a start. The Titans honored George's significant contributions by retiring his jersey number, 27, in 2019.
Following his retirement in 2006, George has pursued various interests and careers. He moved into acting with roles on Broadway, notably in the musical "Chicago" as Billy Flynn in 2016, and guest-starred on an episode of "Comedy Bang! Bang!" in 2015. As an entrepreneur, he started companies EGX Lifestyle and EDGE, which are centered on health and community planning. Additionally, George is furthering his education by pursuing an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He hosts the radio show "Radio, By George!" and contributes to philanthropy via his non-profit organization, Visions with Infinite Possibilities (V.I.P).
As of 2021, George has taken on the role of head football coach at Tennessee State University, a position that allows him to use his extensive football experience and leadership skills. For his efforts, he was named the Big South-OVC Coach of the Year in 2024. George was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011 and the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2020, further cementing his legacy in sports. He is married to Tamara "Taj" Johnson-George, a Grammy-nominated singer from the group SWV, and they live in Tennessee with their two sons, Eriq and Jaire.
