Elias A. Zerhouni, MD is the President and Vice Chairman of the Board of OPKO Health, a fully-integrated healthcare company focused on delivering next-generation solutions for serious diseases across established global markets. A physician-scientist, Dr. Zerhouni is the co-founder of ModeX Therapeutics, a biotech startup developing advanced immune therapies for cancer and viral diseases, which was acquired by OPKO in 2022.

A radiologist by training, Dr. Zerhouni focused much of his research on CT- and MRI-based imaging methods to diagnose cancer and cardiovascular diseases. He has held influential roles, including President of Global Research & Development at Sanofi from 2010 to 2018, Senior Fellow at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and U.S. Presidential Science and Technology Envoy. Previously, he directed the National Institutes of Health from 2002 to 2008 and held leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University, where he is now Professor Emeritus.

A member of both the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Zerhouni serves on the boards of the Lasker Foundation, the Foundation for the NIH, and Research!America. His contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the 2017 Scripps Executive of the Year Award and the French Legion of Honor in 2008. Since 2009, he has been a director at Danaher Corporation and has served as a director at B-FLEXION Capital since 2019.
