Elizabeth Beisel is one of the most well-respected Olympic athletes of the past decade and is widely regarded as the consummate “team leader” among all Olympians. As a 3-time Team USA Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016), 2-time Olympic medalist and the team captain of the 2016 US Olympic Team, Beisel has had one of the most accomplished and remarkable athletic careers in history
As impressive as Beisels’ athletic accomplishments are, it is her reputation as a team leader, mentor and motivator that has led to such a loyal following among fans and strong relationships with sponsors. Beisel is an ambassador for the Olympics, Women in Sports and often speaks to corporations about how to be a team leader. Her perspective spans across three Olympic Games, is easily one of the most unique and sought after views on leadership in the world.
Beisel began swimming at age 5, following her mother, who swam at the University of Rhode Island. She grew up in Rhode Island and graduated from North Kingstown High School in 2010. She trained with Bluefish Swim Club under coach Chuck Batchelor.
In 2008 she solidified her place on the international swimming stage by qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team. At 15, she was the youngest member of the squad. Beisel cites this moment as her favorite moment in the sport, “I have won plenty of medals and broken plenty of records, but the happiness I experienced when I made my first team in 2008 is second to none. As a little girl, all I ever wanted to do was compete on the Olympics. When that dream finally turned into reality, it was one of the best days of my life.”
Beisel currently lives in Saunderstown, RI where she keeps an active role in advancing women’s sports, and is a sought after national speaker. She is involved with organizations focused on sustainability, including Dow Chemical, an Olympic Sponsor, and Save the Bay. In Spring 2019, she was the Keynote Speaker on behalf of Dow Chemical Company at the American Institute of Architects Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she related the importance of sustainability with the Olympic Games. Further, as a Rhode Island native growing up with a close connection to the ocean, Elizabeth has become an advocate for Save the Bay. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to improving and protecting Narragansett Bay, located on the northern side of Rhode Island Sound. She is very passionate about ocean sustainability and preserving the world’s oceans, and is excited to partner with organizations and events that share similar values. Beisel’s other interests include surfing, hanging at the beach, and traveling to cool new places around the globe!
