Elizabeth Wayne      

Biomedical & Chemical Engineering Professor at Carnegie Mellon University; Women in Higher Education Advocate & Co-Host of the “PhDivas” Podcast

Elizabeth Wayne is an assistant professor in biomedical engineering and chemical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. An advocate for women in higher education, she is a TED Fellow, speaker, and co-host of the “PhDivas” podcast. Wayne’s current research uses macrophages for gene delivery to treat cancer and promote musculoskeletal regeneration.

Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the NIH Carolina Center for Nanotechnology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Wayne’s PhD work in immune-cell-mediated drug delivery resulted in several publications and a technology patent. She has also received National Cancer Institute funding for her research on the role of immune cells in cancer progression and their potential as drug delivery carriers.
