Elroy Dimson    

Professor of Finance, Cambridge Judge Business School; Former Chairman, Strategy Council, Norwegian Government Pension Fund

Elroy Dimson is Professor of Finance and Research Director at Cambridge Judge Business School, and Bye-Fellow of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he is chairman of the Centre for Endowment Asset Management. He is Emeritus Professor of Finance at London Business School.

Dr Dimson has served as chairman of the Strategy Council for the Norwegian Government Pension Fund, and he chaired the Policy Board of the index company FTSE Russell. He has served on the steering committee of the Financial Economists Roundtable and the investment committees of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Charity, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, and several other institutions. He is on the CFA Research Foundation review board and is a fellow of the CFA Society in the UK. He is a member of the European Corporate Governance Institute, an honorary fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, and is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Dimson's research focuses on long-horizon investment, endowment strategy, responsible investing, and financial history. He is the co-author of the books "Global Investment Returns Yearbook," "Financial Market History," "Endowment Asset Management," and "Triumph of the Optimists."He and his co-authors have become well known for their studies of the investment performance since 1900 of financial assets in 90 countries and real assets such as wine, stamps, art, and collectibles.

Dimson has also written numerous journal articles. He has won the CFA Institute's James Vertin award, the Moskowitz prize and the Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy award. His awards also include the Graham and Dodd Award for excellence in investment research, the aiCIO Top Ten Most Influential Academics in Institutional Investing, profiling by the CFA Institute as an Investment Luminary, and multiple prizes for his work on responsible and sustainable investing. His PhD is from London Business School.
