Emily Rubenstein is a Senior Policy Advisor in the New York City Mayor's Office of Long-term Planning and Sustainability. Rubenstein developed and wrote the solid waste strategy for PlaNYC, the Mayor’s long-term sustainability plan, and is currently implementing initiatives aimed at doubling the City’s recycling rate. Previously, she served in the Mayor’s Office of Operations, where she managed high-priority projects aimed at improving agency efficiency and service delivery. Rubenstein has also worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC as a Presidential Management Fellow and policy analyst in the Office of the Administrator. Rubenstein holds a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelors degree from Bowdoin College. She is a third generation New Yorker, and lives with her husband and daughter in Brooklyn.
