Eric Fair, an Army veteran, worked in Iraq as a contract interrogator in 2004. He won a Pushcart prize for his 2012 essay “Consequence,” which was published first in Ploughshares and then in Harper’s Magazine. His op-eds on interrogation have also been published in The Washington Post and The New York Times.

He is a graduate of Boston University. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1995 and served as an Arabic linguist with the 101st Airborne Division. After being discharged in 2000 he worked as a police officer in his hometown of Bethlehem PA. In 2003 he returned to government service and worked as an interrogator for the Department of Defense in Iraq. He returned to Iraq in 2005 as an employee of the National Security Agency. He left government service in 2006 and worked as a reporter covering the school district in Bethlehem PA.
