Eric Litwin

Award-Winning Children's Author. Live Children's Entertainer. Author of "Pete the Cat" Children's Books.

Eric began as a classroom teacher. He discovered that music engaged his students and helped them learn to read. So he brought his guitar to work everyday. Eric left the classroom to write books that integrate traditional reading methods such as phonics and sight words with multisensory techniques such as music, movement, call and response and repetition.

Eric became a popular entertainer giving hundreds of shows every year. In these performances he was learning how to blend early literacy and music together.

Eric entered the world of publishing when he wrote the beloved first four Pete the Cat picture books (I Love My White Shoes, Rocking in My School Shoes, Four Groovy Buttons and Pete the Cat Saves Christmas). They were a big hit! Eric achieved overnight success after only twenty years of effort.

Now his books are classroom classics helping more and more children learn to read. And that's groovy!

Eric left the Pete the Cat series and developed exciting new characters. He is writing a musical series called The Nuts illustrated by Scott Magoon. The two Nut Family books have received overwhelming positive reviews and may be the single greatest disco-infused early literacy event of the decade.

Eric's newest character is a dog named Groovy Joe illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld. Groovy Joe is a fun-loving, guitar-strumming, doggy-ice-cream-eating pup with a song to share. His first adventure comes out Fall 2016. Eric continues to delight audiences through live performances where he shares his books and music.
