Eric McElvenny      

Paralympic Athlete, USMC Veteran, Resilience Expert & Communicator

In 2006, Eric McElvenny graduated the United States Naval Academy while preparing for his service as a Marine Corps Infantry Officer. McElvenny deployed three times as a Marine and on his final tour, an experience in Afghanistan, he was wounded after stepping on an IED. McElvenny suffered the amputation of his right leg, a life‐changing opportunity that began his next journey.

Faced with a physical challenge and an uncertain future, McElvenny made a promise to himself to run an Ironman Triathlon. McElvenny went on to complete 8 Ironman Triathlons to include the World Championships in 2013. McElvenny recently had the privilege of representing Team USA at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Throughout his journey, McElvenny realized that the challenges and adversity he was up against and the techniques he used to reach the finish line could be used against the challenges we all entertain. When not training, racing and delivering inspiration, McElvenny can be found with his wife Rachel and three children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Harnessing Resilience in the Face of Change

Successful companies adapt to a changing environment whether that change comes from growth, transformation, technology, innovative strategy or other sources. This change is overwhelming when professionals are not equipped with the tools to adapt and thrive.

This presentation pulls from the journey of resilience from the loss of my leg in combat to the Ironman World Championships where I utilized the tools every working professional should master to guarantee success in an evolving environment.
