Safety for the Carolina Panthers, Civil Rights Advocate and Activist

Eric Reid Jr. is an American football safety for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL).

Prior to playing for the panthers, Reid played played for the San Francisco 49ers, to which he was an 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Upon arriving in San Francisco in 2013, Reid wasted no time settling into the NFL, earning a starting safety position his rookie year. In his first two games, Eric recorded 2 interceptions and established himself as a leader. Reid finished the season as the only player in the NFC to record 4 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. His aggressive style of play led to him becoming the first rookie to make the Pro Bowl in franchise history. To reward his efforts, the 49ers coaching staff presented Eric with the Thomas Harrison Memorial Award. An award given to the rookie or first-year player who has taken advantage of every opportunity and turned it into a positive situation. In May of 2016, the 49ers picked up the 5th year option on his contract, and continued to play for the 49ers until 2017.

He began his football career in highschool. During his time at Dutchtown High School he participated in football, basketball, and track. On the football field he made 78 tackles, 9 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 3 fumble recoveries as a junior. During his senior year, he received Louisiana Class 5A All-state honors after registering 45 tackles and 3 interceptions. He made the Army Pro Team in 2010. Not only did Eric star on the football field, he was also an excellent track athlete, setting records and placing in short distance runs and hurdling events. Eric is a product of LSU, where he finished his career as one of the top defensive backs in school history. His career led to him receiving many awards, including First-Team All-American honors. During his sophomore year and first year as a starter Reid recorded 76 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.

Reid is known for his activism on and off the field. During the 2016 NFL season, Reid protested with Colin Kaepernick. The two have been collaborating with each other to address social justice issues and help communities and people in need.
