Erica Smegielski is a grassroots activist in favor for gun safety. Although she was not involved in politics previously, she became heavily active after her mother, Dawn Hochsprung who was principal of Sandy Hook, was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting.  She is a prominent representative for the organization, Everytown for Gun Saftey.

Smegielski was raised in Naugatuck, Connecticut and raised by a single mother as she worked her way through college. She worked in the past at a call center for Verizon and as a admissions counselor for Post University.

She was featured in an ad with Hillary Clinton in April of 2016. She maintains the position of not being "anti-gun" and just wanting Congress to pass laws requiring background checks.
